JOHNNY
Birthday:
July 1, 2025
Intake Date:
March 25, 2026
Male

Johnny is only about 10 months old, and he should weigh around 30 pounds. When we rescued him, he weighed just 15 pounds and had a body condition score of 1.5 — one of the most severe emaciation cases we have seen. Every rib and bone in his body was visible. This level of starvation does not happen overnight. It happens over a long period of time.
Johnny also has flystrike, which happens when flies lay eggs on a dog — this typically occurs when a dog is left outside for long periods of time without proper care. This is not something that happens to a dog who is living safely inside a home. Because of this, we believe Johnny was kept outside and neglected for a long time before he was brought to the shelter as a “stray.”
Despite everything he has been through, Johnny is incredibly sweet, gentle, and loving. He still trusts people. He still wags his tail. He still wants to be close to humans. All he wants is love.
Right now, Johnny is safe with us and is receiving veterinary care, careful refeeding, supplements, and monitoring so his body can slowly and safely recover. Our team is doing everything we can for him, but his medical care and recovery are costly, and we urgently need donations to continue his treatment.
What breaks our hearts the most is that Johnny is very lonely. He cries in his kennel at night when the staff goes home because he finally feels safe, and he just wants someone to be there with him. He is still a baby. He should not be alone. He should be in a home, on a couch, next to someone who loves him, never feeling hungry or abandoned again.
Johnny survived the worst, and now he finally deserves a chance to live a normal life and find a loving home.
Please help Johnny by donating and sharing his story so we can continue his medical care and find him the home he has always deserved.
